first, reboot your system. shut down any processes you can, including anti-virus. empty the temp directory and reinstall. or copy the photoshop folder from the disk to a new, empty folder on your desktop and run install from there.
Direct copy/paste from Google Translate:
If I in the Photoshop 5,0 LE large files process receive I again and again the error message "during reading or writing of the workfile the error -36 arose". Then my system stands. I work with Windows XP. know someone the problem? Are for everyone tap gratefully. Greeting Hans
oops. oh well. 🙂 i tried.
Hans,
We’ve seen error 36 in this forum a number of times. You can do a search in the forum on that and perhaps some of the information from those posts will help you sort it out. If I recall corectly, they are hard drive issues, and you may need to run scandisk to sort it out.
Hello
Thank you for reply.
to all: excuse my bad english!
to Dave: I did it, no success 🙁
to Lawrence: sorry, I didn’t know, that I have to ask in english 🙁 to Jason: Yes, error message in german is (-36)
to YrbkMgr: sorry, I did my search in German, I will try to do it in english now.
Hans,
Here are some forum search results – I believe it points to a hard drive issue, but may be related to Norton AV:

Pmm "Scratch Disk vs. Norton Antivirus" 9/17/03 12:02pm </cgi-bin/webx?13/6>
YrbkMgr "ERROR "36" OR "1" …SCRATCH DISC ..IRRECOVERABLE." 9/16/03 5:49pm </cgi-bin/webx?13/6>
Chris Cox "psd image 404M/404M sent to printer gives Disc error-36" 9/4/03 8:12pm </cgi-bin/webx?13/0>
Robert Blackwell "XP and 6.0 question" 9/3/03 2:32pm </cgi-bin/webx?13/0>
There are more, but this should help a bit.
Peace,
Tony
Hans,
Your English is fine. You don’t have to ask in English. You will just get better results if you do. Lucky for us your English is a lot better than our German 🙂
