Other than to note that on XP and Win2K on my systems, PSCS sees them fine.
On MacOS 9 and earlier systems, Photoshop can have trouble "seeing" a .bmp file because there is some debate in the Mac programming community over what the proper Type code for a .bmp file should be.
Macs use Type and Creator codes, not file names or extensions, to identify a file. Some applications set the Type code of a .bmp file to "BMPf" while others set it to "BMP ". Photoshop will "see" one type but not the other, unless you choose the option to show all file types in Photoshop’s Open dialog.
I do not believe this issue affects systems running OS X.
