I just got a new Windows XP Pro machine yesterday and installed PS 6.0 and then installed the 6.0.1 update. PS opened fine and I was able to do some work no problem. Today I go to open PS and after a few seconds of starting up, I get an error message that says "The file could not be opened because the file is locked. Use Windows Explorer to unlock the file." I go to Windows Explorer but the Lock checkbox is not available for Photoshop.exe (even when I logged in as the administrator). So I uninstalled PS and then reinstalled and then added the updater. I can run PS when I’m logged in as the administrator, but then when I log in as my regular user, I still get the same error! What can I do to fix this? Why did it work OK yesterday and then not today? Please help! Thanks in advance.

Any help on this at all? Could it just be a preferences file problem? I could not find the PS prefs file to rename it so that the next time I started PS a new prefs file would be created. Does anyone know where the prefs file is in XP? Thanks again.

As soon as you launch PS hold down the ctrl+shift+alt keys and you’ll be prompted to delete the prefs files.
