How do I create a dotted border much like the one in the image above in Photoshop?

I can create each image from type that has then been rasterized and then selected and the expand modifier selected… but then im stuck.

Can anyone lend me a hand?

Many thanks

Easiest would be to do this in Illustrator, by creating a path and applying a dashed stroke to it.

In photoshop, you could define a black/white checker pattern, and in "layer effects" apply the "patterned stroke".

Dan, if you have PSCS, you can try the new type along a path tool. Make your path with the pen tool, select a font to use and a size that fit your particular image. Click on the path with the text tool and start typing a period or whatever character you want to use. I have found that this works OK but the last period is never recorded so there is a space in the dotted line.

Another way is to make a new brush tip the size you want. Go to the brushes palette choose a brush tip, change its size, say 8 px, change its spacing to about 200 or more and save it as a new preset brush. Again, make your path with the pen tool (or any selection tool, but then change the selection into a path) and from the path palette, click on the small triangle in the upper right and choose stroke path (choose brush) and OK.

Thanks for your replies guys….

A little question then. Can I create a path using the current selection (i.e the selection that was the text and the face selected and then expanded a few pixels) or do I have to do it using the pen tool?

I’m guessing you can do this since Wnor said this

"(or any selection tool, but then change the selection into
a path)"

How do I do that?

Many thanks

Dan, you can usually right click on the selection and choose Make Path. Or, you can open the path palette and on the bottom click on the Make Path icon at the bottom of the palette.
