How can I make a .pat file?

The .pat file is the pattern used for the texture in photoshop 6. I only have a few options there and want to make more textures available but I don’t know how to make them. I have the textures already but don’t know how to save it out as a .pat Any ideas?

Open an image. Draw a rectangular marquee. Edit|Create Pattern.
