Hi,

I am running a P3 @ 550mhz with 256 megs of Ram. I cannot really aford to buy a new PC right now, and this one still works great. I would still like to keep this for another year or so until I move out. The only thing I want to do is boost it up so I can handle larger images with ease on with PS7.

My mobo can fit up to 768 megs of SDRAM 133mhz & a processor of up to P3 @ 750mhz. Will upgrading my machine make a huge difference in the performance with Photoshop. If so, what type of RAM is the best.

thanks

In your situation, more memory will probably make the most immediate performance gain (most cost effective) – though a processor upgrade is a close second.

It all comes down to what the weakest link in your system is…

I would say the RAM. I just tried to work with an image at 300dpi and all I got was the dreaded hourglass.

Yes, RAM, but only if you’ve got an OS that will be able to use it correctly, i.e. WIn2k or XP.

Will PS7 even run on win9x? Seems like a kinda weird reply…

Yes, it will run on 98 and ME. And he was talking about an old machine, so I assumed an old OS as well.

CS is the first one that won’t run on anything less than 2k.
