I’m trying to check spelling on a type layer and it brings up a dialog box that says that spell checker had a problem. Any ideas?

Bottom line, Kelly:

If you’re doing so much text in Photoshop that using a combination of your own personal knowledge of spelling and a dictionary wouldn’t be the quickest way to check your spelling, then you really should think about laying out the text in a more appropriate application, such as InDesign or PageMaker.

Now, having said that, I might guess that you haven’t installed the dictionary used to look up words, or else it has become corrupted somehow. Mine works fine (just checked it, right now, for the first time). I haven’t looked around, so I don’t know where to tell you to look for it on your hard drive.

Argg Agg Gagg, Photoshop is an image editor.

Set your type in a page layout application and check it there, or get a virtual spell checker like Excalibur that works on type in memory (clipboard.)

Generally it means the language dictionary for the language of the charcters is missing. Re-install Photshop. If the problem still occurs, let me know what language you were trying to use and I’ll look into it.
