Photoshop is a colour managed application, and Internet Explorer isn’t.

Have you run Adobe Gamma, to calibrate your monitor? I’d also suggest that you read through Ian Lyon’s excellent site <http://www.computer-darkroom.com/ps7-colour/ps7_1.htm> concerning colour management. That will help you immensely.

thoR1 and I have a similar problem. I have used Adobe PhotoDeluxe for several months for rather simple tasks, mostly restoring old, damaged photos. I now also have Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0. When I open THE SAME FILE, on the SAME computer, on the SAME monitor, in PhotoDeluxe and in Elements 2.0, the PhotoDeluxe picture looks "normal," but the Elements picture looks as if it had been made an hour after sunset–very dark. When I have prints made from pictures I have manipulated in PhotoDeluxe, the prints look very much like the pictures I saw on my monitor. I do not understand why two Adobe programs show very dissimilar views of IDENTICAL files.

Roger – it’s all because you didn’t read the previous responses.

Naahh–it’s because I am dumb. I went into Control Panel>Display>Settings>Advanced>Color Management. The only color profile in the box was for my SyncMaster 171v monitor. I clicked on Add, which brought up a long list of profiles. I chose Adobe RGB 1998 and added that, which is now my default profile. Now my pictures look the same, to my eye, in Elements as they do in PhotoDeluxe–just the way they did before Elements began showing dark pictures. This is no doubt a crude adjustment that lacks the refinements of color management explained by Ian Lyon, which I have digested to only a small degree, but for the moment it seems adequate for my use of Adobe Elements.

And that was a mistake – Adobe RGB doesn’t reflect the state of your display. Read Ian’s web site.
