Hello,

I am looking for a DVD authoring software that will:

accept still photos in jpeg or tiffs as well as video. give first class quality results with special effects like zoom and transitions. (I am amazed that Encore does not have transition ability.)

I don’t think I can get that kind of quality for $100. price range but tell me what you think.

As well as burning a DVD, I want to be able to burn a CD (or DVD?) that will play the show off my laptop or thru the laptop and a LCD projector and that is stand alone. Also would be nice to have ability to do a show that is interactive, so that the viewer could stop it, go back etc.

I have been looking at Encore, Pinnacle 5.5 and Vegas. However, I am having a hard time being able to get these kinds of answers from the company web sites.

Thanks for any all all help.

Sound to me that you need both a video editor AND a DVD authoring software. Encore is a DVD authoring software, not made to edit video, and reportedly to be buggy (from what I’ve read, so to be taken with a grain of salt as I haven’t tried it myself); Adobe answer to NLE would be Premiere.
Personally, I would recommend Vegas for editing as the interface is incredibly intuitive, the program itself is very stable, it can do things only available on programs costing five time what it cost and more efficiently, sound management utility is probably the best in the industry and more and more plug ins (like Boris Red) are made available for it in case you ever find the end of what it can do. Mate it to DVD architect (also from Sonic Foundry, now Sony) and you’ll have an efficient workflow from start to finish and certainly meet your requirements with lot’s of room to grow. A cheaper alternative would be to use Vegas to edit, and then turn to TMGPenc (free) for encoding to DVD spec, then turn to DVDlab (cheap, $79.00, but with more feature than DVDA) for authoring (I haven’t personally tried this workflow, but only read praise about it in NGs). There are free trial for all of theses, so you can judge for yourself.
A good site for beginner in video editing: http://www.dvdrhelp.com/

At mediachance it is $99.00. Where did you see it for $79.00?

There seems to be a new version, and the "Introductory price" has been raised. It looks like we missed our (media) chance to get it for $79. I was looking for information on an "upgrade" price– It says that currently, all upgrades are free. I only wanted a little better menu for my home videos than VideoStudio 7 allows, and $79 was already seriously stretching the budget…
