Win ME is, in effect, 98 in disguise …
Microsoft doesn’t support ME for the new version of Office…if the maker doesn’t support it, why should anyone else?
HTH,
Wade
MM doesn’t support ME in the new MX 2004.
MF, in case you missed it in another thread, the adobe peeps have stated they’ve explicitly coded to check for 9x/me and forced the app not to run. you need xp or 2k if you want it. i recommend xp simply because that’s the direction ms has said they’re going.
Thanks Dave. I did not see that in the other thread. I have XP on my laptop, but not on my desktop. XP came out a few months after I got my new computer with ME on it and had just redone everything switching to a new computer, I was just too lazy to do it all over again.
Guess I’ll have to do it now. And…reminding me about the activation stuff for MS Word, I’ll have to go through all that again. Yech!
MF
MF,
If you do update that machine, make sure it’s a clean installation. Don’t do an upgrade.

No, that’s the direction they’re coming from… Last year. Next year, XP will be EOLed, too, and you will be expected to move to the NEXT BIG THING.
really?!! 🙂
What i meant was they’re going forward from the xp code base, not the win2k base.
…xp code base, not the win2k
Same tree.
The whole lot is being reinvented, much to the chagrin of some corporate players. The new file system will be a one-way street. Kinda makes one take pause, doesn’t it?
The new file system will be a one-way street
yea i’ve heard that too.
Kinda makes one take pause, doesn’t it?
It’s called progress. If it doesn’t suit you then stick with Win9x and Photoshop 7. Or better yet Win 3.1 and Photoshop 4.
Bob
yea, that’s good advice.
And it even comes with a full money back guarantee. 🙂

Well, hopefully by now, all the folks who have said that their IT department sux, and why can’t they get the latest and greatest, have a better appreciation for the issues involved.
It almost makes me want to go back to Korporate Amerika. Not.
With synchronized upgrades, every 18-months, IT will be swamped, and office productivity might drop a bit, as everybody simultaneously installs brand new versions of every program they use… and tries to learn them. I suppose many will be relieved if a new version number offers no new features.
Even better would be to synchronize with new MS releases.
Well, it’s true, 80% of the cost of ownership is in software and support.
