i’ve got a folder full of a zillion jpgs i need to resize for a presentation.

I’d like to make them all 600 pixels tall. I can easily write an action that will do that and then batch process.

However. Quite a few of the images are under 600 pixels tall, and i dont want to scale them up, only scale down the images that are bigger than 600 tall.

is there any way to write an action that sez, first check file to see what pixel dimensions are…., then, if under 600 tall, skip file and go to next file…? If over 600 tall, proceed with resize?

Automate>Fit Image.

To be clearer, make Background into layer, increase canvas to width that is overly large for all images, say 3000 pixels, Fit Image : height 600, width 3000. Select by Ctrl-clicking layer, Crop Flatten, etc. For images that are less than 600 pixels tall Fit Image will "resize " to 300 wide, whcih it already is. For images over 600 Fit Image will resize the height to 600 always constraining.

The crop would be part of the action and take almost no time.

I don’t like recreating the wheel.

Instead, Do a search for "Picturetray" on the internet (http://www.picturetray.com/default.asp)

It’s about 300K in size and it’s a batch photo resizer. A kick ass little program. But do read the small instructions about how to save your files….you must copy (and you can batch copy them) out of it’s output window to a directory of your choice

I too control some 900,000+ photos and this little program is a lifesaver when I want to risize a multitude – i.e. hundreds of photos at a time.

Hope this helps.

I am one of heavy photo shooter especially with digital camera so I few hundreds to nearly thousand images isn’t hard to make. Cropping is one of the commands I use on hundreds of photos, but because I don’t crop all images the same area so I don’t use action.

BTW, I crop to either 4×6" or 8×10" for printing and photos taken by digital camera have odd size so sometime I have to crop from Left/Right/Middle or somewhere in between so action is quick and save time but just won’t cut.
