I have a .jpg that was emailed to me. The camera resolution is 2048 x 1536.

When I open it, the width=28.444", height=21.333", and resulution=72 pixels/inch.

I have my "new documents preset resolution" set to 300 pixels/inch for screen.

How do I get the .jpg to open with a 300 pixels/inch instead of 72 pixels/inch?

Probably you can’t. If the jpeg was written with ppi info in it you could, but apparently it wasn’t. But why do you care? It’s easy enough to change this in Image Size with Resampling OFF if it matters to you.

You can’t.

But all you have to do is use the Image Size command. Turn off "Resample Image" and change the resolution to 300 pixels per inch. The result will be identical.
