Can someone tell me how I can create an outer shadow for an object?
i.e. I want it to have a shadow all the way round the edges.
I can’t seem to find the option in Photoshop.
Thanks.

I mostly use this technique for a shadow on all sides:
1. Select the object and if necessary copy it to a new layer.
2. Richtclick the layer and choose blending options.
3. Tick drop shadow, click on the word drop shadow itself to see the settings for that effect.
4. When you’re happy with the basic drop shadow click ok. Don’t worry about the shadow being one-sided.
5. Rightclick the effect sublayer and select Create Layer. Click ok at the warning dialog. This decouples the effect from the layer.
6. Ctrl click the newly created layer’s icon in the palette, this selects
the shadow.
7. Ctrl-T activated the Free Transform tool. Manipulate until the shadow neaty fits around the original object on all sides. Press enter to confirm the transformation.
Done!
Of course you can do anything you like further with the layer you created. But these steps should give you fair control over the outer shadow on all sides of any object.
