I am trying to import an image into Pagemaker 6.5. When I create the image in photoshop using the CMYK settings the background colour (yellow c=0 m=0 y=25 k=0) this colour comes across accurately but the blue of the logo (c=80 m=0 y=0 k=0) comes across as turquoise.

When I change the settings to RGB there is no change in the colours in photoshop but when I save the file and import it into Pagemaker The blue renders correctly but the yellow has become duller.

can anyone help me as to why this should happen and what the solution is to rectify the problem.

TIA

Ian

Ian,

CMYK values have a meaning only together with a process definition, like SWOP or Euroscale.

PhS CMYK images and CMYK vector graphics are shown correctly in PM if Color Management is enabled, using the same profiles as in PhS.

If the doc is for offset, then it´s highly recommended to define all vector graphics for the specified
process in CMYK.

RGB can be used for desktop- and large format printers, but this is valid only together with a working space definition. If the printer driver doesn´t offer to choose the RGB source profile, then the working space should be sRGB.

As an alternative the profiles can be embedded. Then it´s not quite clear whether PM really applies these profiles (which are fairly large for CMYK). I am telling PM explicitly the two kinds of profiles – just to define strictly what should happen.

Ian,

To see a representative image (of CMYK files) in PM you need to turn on PM’s colour management and make the settings as close as possible to your colour profiles in Photoshop
