Problems with Drop Shadows

For some reason, when I set up a drop shadow on an object, it turns those settings into global settings on any other layers I’m working on. For example, I have an image on Layer 1 that has a drop shadow at 90 degrees. If I create an image on Layer 2 it will also have a drop shadow at 90 degrees. If I try to modify the angle on Layer 2 (say to -90 degrees) it will automatically change the settings on Layer 1. I didn’t think Photoshop did this. Any ideas?

In the drop shadow options, turn off Use Global Light (no check mark in the Use Global Light box).

In earlier versions of PS, did’t they use to call it global angle. Maybe that’s where the confusion is.
