Hello:

Is there an easy way to assosciate common file types (JPG, GIF, etc) to Photoshop, or do I need to assosciate each one individually?

Thanks.

Right click on the file go to properties and change the "open with" to whatever you want

Only on Photoshop install you can check dozens of image file types at once, for all I know.

Without reinstalling Photoshop, you’d have to do it one by one, or spend time finding a tweak utility which allows you that freaking tweaking.

If you’re on a Windows machine, open Explorer, go to Tools/Folder Options and the File Types tab. Scroll down and control click all the files types you want to associate with PS, click the change button and then select PS and OK and they’ll all be associated with PS.

Another easy way is to right-click the file in Windows and choose "Open With", then "Choose Program". Then select PS and click the check-box beside "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file", before you click on OK.

I was looking for an easy way to associate all of the related file types at once. In other words, JPG, GIF, TIF, etc. in one swoop.

Perhaps the only way to do this easily is during install (as someone mentioned). ???

Thanks for the help!

Do you need to do this repeatedly? If so, you could write a .reg file, VBScript, or VB program to do it, but you would have to know a fair amount about the Windows registry.

It’s the same answer as I’ve given several times if you’re using Windows.

Open Explorer. Go to Tools/Folder Options. Select the File Types tab. Scroll down and control click all the relevant file types. Cl;ick the change button. Pick Photoshop from the browse list. Select OK all the way back.

No, your suggestion is a good one, but is more involved that I need.

Thanks!

Hectare’s method is the best way of doing it, the problem with the ‘right click > open with’ option is, it doesn’t always work.

Also you don’t need a script, that is a pointless suggestion unless you wish to continually change between programs, then it would be better to use ‘open with’ anyway.
