Yeah, I know, I’m supposed to make my own art with PhotoShop. Sometimes, however, I need either a jumping off point or I need a real simple image and I’d like to pull one out of a stock collection. Does anyone work with a packaged collection they really like?

I’m looking for non-photo images as well as some stock photos. I’ve run across packages like Art Explosion and The Big Box of Art from Hemera, but I have no idea of the quality of the images or what type of indexing they use. Any suggestions from experienced users would be welcome.

I purchased all the Hemera stuff…but, I have been satisfied with just annually subscribing to www.clipart.com for $99. 80% of the
clipart is from Hemera…and, I like the spontaneous search index of online versus digging up a bunch of CD’s. I used them for 90%
of the vector clipart and it has done me fine. The photographs, fonts and other stuff does not get me too excited.

I like the products from Hemera Technologies. The PhotoObjects are pretty handy especially since they include an Alpha channel to mask out the background. All of their products when installed interface with one browser which is nice. The prices are pretty good.

I do suggest however you go for DVD versions and not CD versions. Few disks to worry about. I copy the contents to a second hard drive so I don’t have to swap disks.

With that kind of volume, I’d definately copy all the material to a directory. What type of search capability is there with the Hemera line and will it function if you move the material to a new location? Also the name implies they are all photographs and this is something I’m not interested in. I’d use less than 10% photos as oppoed to traditional clip art: cartoon art, drawn illustrations and the like.

Could be your ISP does not carry them. newsgroups are services your ISP pays for. I have several that I can see, but can not access because of this problem. I’m sure someone can recommend a pay service that will get around this or a premium service that allows limited access, as in so many megs per day / week / month for free. I don’t know of any, but I know they exist.

Again, i can only thank you for such a constructive posting. FYI, the problem was with my news-server.
Could you teach me how to chew biros and dribble all day?

You can search by collection, by image type (vector, photo, photo-object, etc.) and by keyword.

As for the content it depends on the package. The Photo-Objects packages are all photo’s of objects with alpha channels (if you wish) so that you can remove the backgrounds. The BizArt and the Big Box of Art packages contain both Photos, Photo-Objects and Vector art. I have PhotoObjects 1, 2, and 3 as well as BizArt and the Big Box of Art 615,000. All of the packages interface in to one browser which is a really nice browser with good features for exporting.

You do want the DVDs (makes it easier to copy the files to your hard disk, less disk swapping). I have an extra 200GB drive that I use for clipart only and this is where it put them.

From the sounds of it the Big Box of Art 615,000 is what you would want.

I have several other recommendations for that package and I am looking into it. Thanks for the help!
