Using snapshots with history brush

Classroom in a Book indicates:

"Selecting a snapshot determines the source pixel state you will paint into the current state of the image."

Does this mean that this determines that place in history that you will go back to using the history brush tool? Does this mean that it will not erase anything prior to that step?

With the history brush tool you will paint with the content of the snapshot you assigned the history brush to.

it does if you set that as your history brush source by clicking box next to the snapshop
