hello all:
I had a power failure to my computer (PC) while PS (701) was open & saving a file and now I cant get PS to open again. It hangs at "sorting font list". Any help would be much appreciated.

I had exactly that happen once. Can you actually look at the volume on C? Is the drive space reported correctly? When you navigate to the Windows folder does everything look intact? How about in the Windows\System folder?

When it happened to me I had PS, Illustrator, PageMaker, and Office open all that the same time. My system got hosed and everything needed to be reinstalled (from the OS up).

Though it does not sound like your entire system is gone, perhaps just PS and the font folders (including the windows font folder perhaps).

The two most likely candidates (IMHO):

1) Bad typeface. Deinstall everything but your systems defaults and fire up PS.

2) Corrupted PS preferences. Delete these and restart PS. (Try this first, as it is simplest).

Go to "my Computer" right click "C", Select "properties, select "Tools",
click on "Check volume for errors". A dialog box may open stating that you have to restart your computer for the check to run. Also check the boxes to automatically fix problems.Restart computer. This often helps when you corrupt files. Will E.
