I’m having a little trouble rounding the corners of images. I’m attempting to use the path palette, is there any other way of making rounded corners on images?

thanks
Phil

1. Select them using the rectangular select tool
2. Go to menu ‘Select – Modify – Smooth’ and enter 20 pixels or so
3. Invert the selection
4. Delete

Although this is really fast, it may be unsatisfactory, especially for larger pixel values, since it doesn’t result in a smooth transition. Furthermore, this approach is limited to a maximum of 100 pixels. A more laborious way, which gives better control over the result is the following one:

1. create a selection with an appropriate radius of curvature using the circular marquee tool.
2. move this selection to the top left corner, save the selection.
3. move this selection to the top right and bottom right selection and
save both
4. move this selection to the bottom left corner
5. load the selections you’ve saved before in the "add to selection" mode. Now you have four circles selected in the four corners.
6. Activate the rectangular marquee tool
7. With the Shift key pressed (PC) select the rectangle between the topmost points of the top and the bottommost points of the bottom circles.
8. Again with the shift key pressed, select a rectangle between the leftmost points of the left and the rightmost points of the right circles.
9. Invert this selection
10. If your are working on the background layer, make sure the background color is whatever you want the color of the corners to be and hit Del. If you work on a different layer, either hit Del or apply the selection as a layer mask

This is an approach which I learned from a tut by myjanee on making buttons. It is sad BTW that she apparently discontinued her contributions to this group. She has been such a friendly and helpful person.

Starting with version 7 I believe, Photoshop has had a shapes tool. One of the options is a rounded rectangle. You can type in the radius. Nice tool but you have to experiment to understand how to use it.

Seems too ardous. Take the rounded-rectangle shape tool. Make it to the desired size. Select outside of it, move to layer to round, and press delete.
