Hi,

I am running Photoshop CS and when I open up a JPEG and alt-click on the clone stamp tool or healing tool nothing happens to my image. I just click to sample and then when I go to apply it I get no response (brush does nothing).

Has anyone had this before? Any ideas as to why it’s happening? Is it something in my pref’s?

Any help would be greatly appreciated big time.

1. Make sure you are actually using the clone or healing tool, not the pattern stamp tool. Click on the tool in the Toolbar and hold down the mouse button; additional tools will pop out of the toolbar. The pattern stamp tool look a lot like the cloning and healing tools.

2. Make sure the tools are set to Normal mode and 100% Opacity. Look in the Options bar; the Mode should be Normal, and the Opacity should be 100%.

3. Make sure you have no selection made. Hit Command-D (PC: Control-D) to cancel any selection.

4. Make sure you are on the correct layer. Look in the Layers palette; if you sample from a transparent part of a layer, the tool will do nothing.

Turns out it wasn’t anything to do with Photoshop. I had my wacom tablet set for pen mode for Photoshop. Now it’s fine….sometimes one feels so stupid.

cheers

I think that I’m safe to say that most of us have faced a similar problem – oh, those damned little settings that we just don’t remember setting, or that tiny checkbox, that seemed to un-check itself, when we were looking someplace else!

Glad you solved your problem,
