Missing Layer Style Window

I’ve been using PS 7 for a couple of years. Suddenly, when I try to apply a layer style (drop shadow, inner glow, etc.) the Layer Style window doesn’t appear, although PS acts as though the window is opened. (I can’t choose any tools and all of the menus are grayed out.) If I hit the enter key, it’s as if I have closed the invisible Layer Style window and everything goes back to normal, until I again try to apply a layer style.

Is some file corrupted? Is there anything I can do short of re-installing PS7?

Thanks.

I think the dialog is off screen. Did you have two monitors set up at some point? Try Window>Workspace> Reset palette locations. If that doesn’t work try trashing preferences.

As an aside, a friend on a MAC laptop usually worked with a second monitor and had his palettes on the second. While visiting, he only had his one built-in monitor and had the same problem. We Reset Palettes, but his Highlight & Shadow palette, which had also been placed on the usual second monitor would not reset – all others did. I, luckily, had a second monitor for him to hook up, and he was able to drag H&S back to monitor 1. For some reason, that one did not reset.
