Hi folks,

I’m wondering what file system would be better for optimum performance of PS (openinmg big files, filtering work, etc).
I have Pentium 4 3.0Ghz and 1gb RAM, 200gb HD. Win XP Pro Thanks for any input.

Before going to Linux, I ran Photoshop on Win 2k with NTFS and found it to be fast. The only time I ran it on Fat 32 was when I was using Win 98 which was a bit slow.

Running it through wine on Linux is about as fast as Win 2k..

NTFS has more overhead, if you don’t need it’s security features go with FAT32.

Check out Microsoft’s explanation of NTFS vs. Fat 32 for the Win XP OS. NTFS is the format best for Win XP. I like it. I ran FAT 32 on XP before switching to NTFS. All 3 of my system are NTFS now. I did not note any slow down of PS.

Sincerely — Randyman
