win explorer runs slow

ever since i installed PS 7.0 windows explorer runs very slowly when trying to open folders with a large number of image files in. I have put PS on my laptop and have the same problem. Photo shop appears to preload all the images within the folder before any other operation can be performed. Ram is not a problem over 1Gig installed running on WinXP

Any help would be appreciated.

I was having the same issue and was able to "speed" things up by changing the default programs to open each image type to the MS Defaults. However, I was not able to change the icons for the images. Photoshop icons are being used for all image types. If anyone knows how to successfully change the icons in Explorer please advise.
