I’m shopping for one as a gift for a friend. I don’t want to spend more than $100, but I’d like something usable that won’t break.

I found that a company called solidyear makes something that looks reasonable:

But I’m not an artist and have never used a tablet like this, so I really don’t know. The above tablet is 3.75" x 5". Is that big enough to be of any use at all?

I also found a refurbished wacom tablet of approximately the same size:
http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10346672&Searc hEngine=PriceWatch&SearchTerm=10346672&Type=PE&C ategory=Comp&dcaid=1688

Are there any other tablets that I should be considering? Thank you so much for your help.

Buy Wacom New or used. Everything else doesn’t have the build quality or the capability.

"solidyear" … ? ? ?

Never heard of them … but I have used several different Wacom tablets, and recommend them. Check their web site … they have several options in your price range.

People will tell you otherwise, but I find Genius tablets quite satisfactory. If you’re going for cheap, Genius will do. A cheap Genius is better than a cheap Wacom (I didn’t know the difference until a actually tried both). Of course, nothing beats an expensive Wacom…but that’s the case with expensive anything.
