There was once a time when Quark was not around and people used Pagemaker and Illustrator for press work, but created graphics in PS.

Nowadays with layer blending and effects, text effects, and text type vector… a lot of interesting designs can be created using just PhotoShop.

So you create a PSD file that has multiple layers and effects and want to correctly print it out….

How do you take an 11×17 600dpi file with 35 text layers (a third with special mode effects or blending) and pre press it?

Do you convert to a PDF within PhotoShop as a "save as…"?

Do you set your fonts to NONE instead of Crisp, Smooth, or Sharp?

Do you embed fonts or change the layers with text that are just font layers to a vector outline?

Or would it be smarter to take the background layer into Illustrator, re-create the 35 font layers and save as an EPS file?

Or do you just open the PSD in Illustrator and use its Save As… to create a PDF?

Please any help to print this out using CMYK on a digital printer (or because digital, is RGB ok and why does everyone want to convert to CMYK for digital printers?)

thanks…. what do most do here for pre press??
