Dear all,

Is there any good tutorials out there which teaches how to create reflections in water? I have been searching around but found nothing I want.

I have a PSD file which is done but someone long ago. It is about 1.4mb and shows a rainbow relected on water. Somehow or rather I can’ t figure out how the designer created this PSD file.

If I post it here, can some kind souls tell me how this PSD file is created(specfically the combinations or even better steps needed to create this file).

Thanks a million.

Here’s what I did to create reflections:

1. Determine the position of the horizon
2. Copy the part of the image above the horizon
3. Paste (This should create a new layer, say, Layer1)
4. Flip vertically
5. Align the top with horizon
6. Filter -> Distort -> Wave
7. Load selection from Layer1 transparency
8. Create new layer (Layer2) and fill the selection with a darkish blue
9. Using the brush tool paint lots and lots of white horizontal strokes
10. Using the liquify effect try to make ripples from those white strokes 11. After you’re done with ripples, zoom out so that you see the entire image and have lots of space around it
12. (cont’d) Press CTRL+T and, right-clicking, choose perspective from the context menu. Add perspective to the Layer2 by dragging the lower left/right edges away from the image.
NOTE: The perspective also suggests the distance from the viewpoint to the object, so if you distort more the distance will seem to increase. If the shot is, say, a close-up and you add more perspective the object will seem larger. (Or it may be that I was just hallucinating.) 😉 13. Set blending mode for Layer2 to "Vivid light" and play with the opacity setting until you’re happy with how things look
14. [Optional] Create another layer, below Layer2, and fill it with emerald green or some other color of your choice (you’ll know what color you need once you try some out), and set the blending mode for this layer to "Color"

I may be forgetting something, but you’ll probably be able to manage on your own from here… Hope this works for you.

Of course, the "Flood" plug-in is very neat and easier to use. I had seen some of my colleagues use it. But the effect is always the same and that becomes quite boring after a while.
