Restore old photo..advice please

I have old photo (black and white) and trying to restore for a relative. It is a portrait of three heads but they are blurred the pic is also slightly faded and there are lots of scratches.
Any advice on this will be welcome (I have photo 6.0)

I’m just starting on the same type of project. I have yet to acquire the book, but I got a lot of good advice and help glancing through "Photoshop Restoration & Retouching" by Katrin Eismann (ISBN: 0735713502). She also has a nice website with some amazing before and after pictures.

After the Holiday’s I’ll be far enough along with my PhotoShop learning, I’ll be acquiring my own copy. It looks like if you will do this type of thing, the book is invaluable.

Whatever tools or techniques you use, do all your work on a blank layer. That way, you can erase bad work later to reveal the original underneath.

Why not put the image on a webpage so we can see how you’re progressing and offer better advice.
