We have Photoshop 7 running on a Dell laptop with Windows 98SE. Up until recently, everything has worked perfectly. Now, we try opening .nef images in Photoshop and they have a green tint to them. .jpg images look fine. We’ve tried uninstalling Nikon View and reinstalling it, as well as uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop. We’ve also re-calibrated the monitor. Nothing has helped. The .nef images look ok in Nikon Browser but when brought into Photoshop, they get the green tint. However, looking at the same images on a different computer in Photoshop, they look fine. Pictures taken as .jpg do not have the green tint.
Any advice is appreciated.

Well, the Nikon software is not color managed (or badly color managed), and Photoshop IS color managed.

So it could be your display profile (not likely since JPEG works), your default working space in Photoshop, or settings in the Nikon software.

Since the .jpgs look fine, we don’t believe it’s a monitor calibration problem. We’ve talked to Nikon View and we have the plug-ins installed correctly and working. We also have the color space in Photoshop set correctly, but the .nef images still are off color. We’re running out of ideas to try.

I think its something to do with the way nef files are bought into photoshop. try saving them as jpgs/tifs out of nikonview or capture have a similar problem with colour richness, the NEFs look great in nikon capture but when i bring the jpg into photoshop dull and lifeless colour. happens even with colour correction off, so i suspect the nikon software is showing way out of control images, which is a shame because capture is awesome software, much better than camera raw plugin, but it is specific to nikon cameras.

if your raw shots are coming in green i would suggest its a white balance problem, photoshop cannot handle the step adjustment only the base colour modes i think. try the jpg out of nikon software.

hope some of this helps

I had the same problem.. turned me off on nefs because of the color.. since I went to the nikon site ad downloaded the current version of nikon view my nefs display like the jpegs. Seems nikon had a problem with their nikon view software but the current version seems to have fixed it 🙂
