Is there such a thing as a Photoshop plug-in (free or $$$) that would allow me to take a still photograph a make it look like it’s been animated or has a claymation-like look and feel?

Imagine taking a picture of your kid and making it look like (s)he is in a scene from the old school 1960’s Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer movie.

Thanks.

That’s a neat idea but I doubt there would be a plugin. Here is a sort of stand alone that perhaps if you could use the draw tool to trace the kids…Magical Sketch from Curious Labs.

I saw a clever technique for turning a face into a statue, which involved mapping an image of stone over a face. I actually made it work after some tedious experimentation, but concluded that it would not work with every combination of images. Sorry I can’t recall the site, but somebody here may recognize it.

This is not quite what you’re looking for, but it may move in the right direction.

How would the kids feel about a heavy coat of latex paint?

I would extract the images from the rest of the photo, render lighting effects with a texture channel to give a sort of clay-like look/texture to them and then animate them in ImageReady.

I’ve animated single photos before with good results:
