I have created a green rectangle in CS and wanted to cut out the center. So I used the marquee tool and drew a rectangle in the center of the rectangle and then clicked cut. The whole thing turned green.

Now I know I used to do this all the time so I saved the original green rectangle as a jpg and then performed the same as above and sure enough the center cut out.

Why did it not cut out on the original?? I even saved it as a PSD file and it still did not work.

Any help appreciated

How did you make the rectangle? If you used the Shape tool you won’t get the same behavior as if the rectangle were actual pixels.

Try rasterizing the layer first.
