Photoshop CS Channel Woes

Is anyone else having this problem? I open an image and switch to Lab mode, select just the b channel and apply a gaussian blur. Photoshop applies the blur to the entire image, even the channels that are not selected! Blurring a single channel worked fine until yesterday, but now I can no longer apply an effect to just one channel! Is this a known bug?
