I’m using Photoshop 7.0. I want to mount a panoramic phot which is 4 x 10 inches onto a transparent 8 x 10 canvas (so I can print this centered on an 8 x 10 inch photo sheet). When I try enlarging the canvas size it automatically defaults the background color as black. When I try using the paint bucket tool to change this to white it appears a light gray when I view this on my monitor or when I print it out. How do I make the canvas background transparent?

Thanks,

Martin

Create a new document, make it 8X10 and transparent. Then go back to your photo, selact all, copy and paste. Easy-peasy.
By the way, if you enlarge the canvas and it is black you have black set as your background color. Use ControlD to restore the default of black foreground, white background.

Just regular "D" will do it, not Ctrl-D.
