I am trying to TRACE a bitmap using the pen tool and multiple layers (one for each "path"). I am calling a "path" a connected set of curved lines drawn with the pen tool – I need to leave these paths OPEN (where the end points are NOT CONNECTED to each other), and I need to have them FINISHED as a entity that remains visible while I go about drawing additional "paths". What happens is the minute I start another path, the previous FINISHED path disappears, and a new "SHAPE" entry appears in the layers palette. I have to click on the "visibility" icon to get it back, but it won’t STAY visible while I draw additional paths.
The former path(s) are still there, of course, but I need to see them ALL AT THE SAME TIME as I continue drawing additional paths. I use the "visibility" icon to toggle the bit map in and out of visibility, as I go, of course, but, I can’t really see what I am doing if all my earlier paths disappear on me. HOW DO I GET ALL MY PATHS TO STAY VISIBLE when I start a subsequent path?
I hope I am not going about this the wrong way – is there an easier way to trace a bitmap that allows me to draw CURVED lines on top of the bitmap, where I can toggle the bitmap in and out of visibility while I proceed?
I am trying to do what I am used to doing with a printed bitmap, tracing paper, and a dark pen. I usually have a blank white sheet that I slide in between the tracing paper and the printed bitmap (to hide the bitmap temporarily), so I can see how my tracing lines are going as I work on it. It would be REALLY GREAT if I could do this with photoshop CS. Thanks. littleberry
