transferring type form PS to Illustrator

I have an ad I designed in PhotoShop which I now want to re-do in Illustrator. When I cut and copy text that is 17 pt in Photoshop (CS), and then paste it into Illustrator (CS), the type is huge, and no longer at 17 pt. I have the preferences in both programs set to use points as the unit of measurement for type, and both documents are the exact same size. Anyone?
