A few questions..

Actions are edited only within PSCS2 or the code can be modified (hacked?) with an external program? I saw an action that crops the canvas trimming out the alpha zones. How is it possible? How can an action do such things? I mean, how can it understand where to crop? Does it make some kind of decision? I thought only scripts could…

It uses the "Trim" command, set to "Transparant Pixels". You can also do this yourself without an action, under Image>Trim, very handy sometimes.
I don’t know about any other program than PS to modify actions.
