I’m thinking of moving back just for the speed of 7. Will there be a problem opening CS2 files?

That depends. For normal TIFF and PSD files, no. But if you’ve used things like Smart Objects and other new stuff, yes.

Other than Johan’s caveats, only thing to consider is that any PSDs are Saved with full compatibility. Look in Preferences to set the default, and when Saving, make sure that the box is checked. Otherwise, no.
