In Photoshop CS and older versions it was possible to duplicate a mask the following way:
– make the layer active that needs a mask
– drag/drop a mask that’s attached to another layer on the "Add a layer mask" icon at the bottom of the layers palette
This would duplicate the mask.
In Photoshop CS2 I can’t duplicate a layer this way, the "Add a layer mask" icon is grayed out.
I would like to see that Adobe returns to the old way, but until this happens, what is the alternative other than a copy/paste of a layer mask’s content?
I did notice that I can duplicate a mask by dragging it to another layer by holding down the Alt/Option key which works fine when both layers are close to one another, but if I have many layers in between it means I’m going on a slow "scrolling trip" with the mouse. In the old situation I would be able to use the scroll bar instead which works faster.
