How to open NEF files in PE 2?

John, are NEF files Nikon RAW? If so, you can’t open them in PE2 without an Adobe plug-in (which I believe costs $99). I’m surprised to hear you were able to open them in PE1 – didn’t know it could handle RAW. Most of us who shoot RAW images (I do so with Canon cameras) do the conversion (to TIFF or JPEG) outside Elements. Sounds like you may have a workaround, though – open them in PE1 and do a Save As, then fire up PE2 and go to work!

PE1 wouldn’t open them either.
Probably had the Nikon plugin loaded for previous version (comes with NikonView).
Would need to be loaded for PE2 also.
