Monitor calibration

My photos, when put on the web, look correct on one computer and too dark on another. Is there a way to calibrate the colors, contrast and brightness on my monitor?

Without a 3rd party calibration device/utility you may not be able to. Running Adobe Gamma MAY be able to create a profile that helps, but Adobe Gamma is not designed for use with LCD Monitors, so there are no guaranties

tried gamma and you are right.. no luck.. what thrid party software do you recommend ..

I’ve no experience of calibrating LCD’s at all – I’ll leave it to someone who has to advise.

A number of options are available:

ColorVision Spyder2Pro – <http://www.colorvision.com>

GretagMacbeth i1Display – <http://www.i1color.com>

Monaco Systems OPTIX XR or XR Pro – <http://www.monacosys.com>

There are others but these should do to begin with. ColorVision have already announced their new system and GretagMacbeth are due to do so this week so wait a few days before throwing your $’s around.

I have the Gretag MacBeth i One Match system. I have calibrated a few LCD screens. The degree of success seems to depend on how good the LCD screen is to begin with. It will probably get you all that your particular LCD screen is capable of.
