When I open an image in Photoshop Elements 4.0 using the Standard Editor, I see a line under the Image window that contains:

Adobe RGB (1998) (8 bps)

What does the "(1998)" tell me? Is it just the origination date of the Adobe color space, or is it some information about the file? I suspect the former because the same value seems to appear for various image files.

It’s the date of the color space; nothing to do with your image.
