CS not "auto-registering" serial number?

I opened my CS2 box and noticed the very first pamphlet says, "you’re just seconds away…" Inside, it says, "Our new single-screen registration is built right into the product. Your serial number is even registered for you!"

I’m thinkin’ yeah, baby! But, then my austin powers imitation died soon after when, during installation, none of it was true. I’m having to do it all by hand…

again.

Why no one else is complaining about this makes me think that I’m the only one this has happened to. What went wrong?

Beats me, but I don’t like the idea of any software automatically passing data off my PC to another location if it does so without asking for approval from me first. I’d far rather manually enter the data and then request a registration action be performed.
