Patch Tool Transparency box: What does it do?

Can anyone explain exactly what this checkbox is used for? I can find no mention of it in the online help files … and experimenting with it has proved unenlightening.

I do know that when it is checked, you can’t clone areas with the "Source" button clicked.

I’m sure the answer is something very obvious, simple and useful.

I seems I read once that there is some connection between the patch tool and the brush size or hardness, even though there doesnt seem to be one, as in for example the clone tool. anyone know any scoop on this?

ps, you didnt say what version you are using, Im still in 7 and dont see any option like that.

I’m using Photoshop CS. I don’t think the option exists in 7.0. At least, I don’t remember it.
