CS2 won’t recognize PSfiles

In Cs2 when I go to save as sometimes the file will save correctly. But the next time it will not. There will be a different icon there and when you try to open it in CS2 says it can’t open it. You can save two file back to back and one will save correctly and the other will not.
If anyone has any answers I would appreciate it as I have lost much time to day over this. Thanks.
