Smart Sharpen Preview goes black

I am working in PS CS2 in windows XP. When I go to Filter>Sharpen>Smart Sharpen the Preview window is filled with black. I have tried different images and get the same thing. Why?

Try to reduce your videocard hardware acceleration. (right click on the desktop, >settings > parameters > advanced button > on one of the tabs (repair?) you’ll see a slider.
If it works, you need to update your videocard driver.
