I am considering setting up a web page with perhaps 200 images people may view and place orders for prints.

It has been suggested that the preferred image size is 640 x 480 pixels with 72 DPI resolution. I can scan the original slides using my Minolta Dimage scanner at 624 x 416. How do I convert to 72 resolution using Elements V1?

When I did a test scan and converted the image to JEPG the file size is 58KB. Is this too large for efficient loading of Web page?

Forget ppi/dpi.
Only pixel dimensions have relevance onscreen.
640×480 at 72ppi or at 7200ppi are exactly same size on screen. PPI has meaning only for printing.
