Photoshop 5 activating auto layers select

I am trying to help a friend and she is still in photoshop 5. When she This feature used to work but it does not. Rigth now when she is on a layer in the file window it does not indicate which layer she is on in the layers palette. Can anyone tell me how to turn this feature on?? Thanks Debi

If I understand what you are asking, look at the Options palette. You either want Auto Select checked or not, depending on what behaviour you are looking for.

If that doesn’t help, trash preferences.

In the layers palette if I click on the black triangle and select palette options the only choice I get is for the size of the icon. Where should I be checking? Thanks for your help
