I am stumped –

When I choose gaussian blur, I don’t get an interface window, the cursor turns into a square, and I have to quit out of the program to resume work, as it freezes Photoshop.

The image will blur to a degree before it freezes, but won’t give me any control over how much. Also – I can zoom in and out using hot keys, and can select other programs, but cannot do anything else in Photoshop.

I have re-booted, re-installed, etc, with no luck.

any thoughts?

Reset your preferences. See the FAQ for more details. You have a dialog box that is offscreen.

I had the same problem. You must be using an old version of Photoshop on a bi-processor computer. And this makes freeze Photoshop. Downlaod a patch there (Altivec) : < http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=3 9&platform=Macintosh>
