In previous versions of Photoshop, the "Save As" dialog would default to the last folder you saved a file in (it may have been a preference you could set one way or another). Now, it defaults to the folder your current document was opened from, and you have to navigate to the correct save location. I hear you can use "Default Folder X" to get this functionality back, or something like it. Not sure if this is an Adobe or Apple thing. Is there a way to bring back this very basic feature without spending another $35 on third-party shareware?

Well, if you have a particular destination folder in mind then you could add it to the side bar on a Finder window. Then you can click it when you do a Save As to jump to that folder.

Put your Open from folder inside your Save To folder then you just have to select the "uber folder" from the dropdown when you Save As.
