When I open up an image (any image), a Thumbnail of a snapshot is promptly displayed in the History Palette but then the image on the screen flickers then the words "duplicate image" appear in the History Palette and there appears to be a checkered image behind the main image. (The checkered image appears briefly then appears to disappear behind the main image). I do not understand why this is or what, if anything, I did wrong. Can someone please offer some advice on how to make this "duplicate image" in the History Palette go away.

Thank you in advance.

the checkered area represents transparency.
